Where Rare Books
Meet a Renewed Future
The Minneapolis Athenaeum is reemerging; thoughtfully, intentionally, and with a renewed commitment to making rare books and cultural heritage more visible, relevant, and alive in our community.
For generations, the Athenaeum has quietly stewarded an extraordinary collection. Today, we are building on that legacy with new energy: investing in contemporary acquisitions, creating opportunities for the public to engage with the collection, and developing programs and events that connect people to ideas, history, and one another.
Our current priorities include:
New Book Acquisitions
Expanding the collection with significant contemporary works, including Indigenous authors, artists’ books, and limited editions that reflect the world we live in today.
Public Programming & Events
Curated exhibitions, readings, and gatherings that bring the collection into public life and create meaningful, shared experiences.
Collection Care & Access
Preserving rare materials while increasing opportunities for scholars, artists, and the broader community to engage with them.
This is a moment of renewal. A chance to not only preserve the past, but to actively shape the future of the Athenaeum as a vibrant, welcoming cultural resource.
We invite you to be part of the story
